The Herman Miller Sayl Chair

Yves Béhar, a designer at Herman Miller, was asked to design a chair which was affordable and still represented the high quality brand that is Herman Miller. Simply put, Yves was tasked to design a chair that was stunning yet elegant, possessed first class ergonomics and was environmentally friendly. No east feat.

Béhar, who calls San Francisco home, commenced his thought process, by looking at designs that deliver the most with the least. Béhar looked to the city’s most famous landmark: the Golden Gate Bridge. Béhar wondered, could the engineering principles of a suspension bridge be applied to a chair?

“The notion of using a suspension tower to support an unframed suspension back meant that the flexible elastomer suspension material could be stretched in a way that provided the greatest tension at points where support is needed and the least in areas that would allow for the most expansive range of motion.

Sayl delivers three aspects – great design, exceptional support and value for money.
