Eames Chairs

Those in the know will recognize the Eames chair and furniture by its lauded design. This iconic design was the brainchild of the husband and wife team Charles and Ray. With backgrounds in architecture, art and design, this couple was very innovative. These designers worked initially with molding plywood. In 1946 the Eames’ molded furniture went into production. Their molded plywood chair was called “the chair of the century” by the well – known architectural critic Esther McCoy. Initially produced by Evans Products it was soon taken over by the Herman Miller Company who continue to produce the furniture in the United States to this day. Vitra International manufactures the furniture in Europe.
